Islands of Cats at the 64th and 65th International Cat Show in Smart City Malta, February 11 and 12, 2017

This weekend, February 11 and 12, animal lovers will enjoy the 64th and 65th International Cat Show in Smart City in Malta. "A wide variety of breeds will be on display, including Bengals, Devon Rex, Himalayans, Maine coons, Persians, Sphynx and also household cats." the Times of Malta wrote last Friday in an article announcing the show.

With more than 350,000 stray and feral cats in Malta and Gozo, our small, sea-locked nation also dedicates a lot of love, time and money in caring for the less privileged felines. The 2016 released photostory-book "Islands of Cats" introduces a representative 22 of the over 1,000 individuals devotedly looking after stray cats in the streets, in cat colonies and in stray shelters on a daily basis. The hardcover book comes with 258 colourful photographs on 128 pages, with interviews, stories, cat facts, it introduces places of interest in our islands, and all of it before the backdrop of mediterranean beauty, in English, Maltese and German. Elegant Cats Captivated Malta's Smart City on 3-4 Dec 2016

The spectacular, musical and colourful fountain water show was not the only attraction recently in Malta’s Smart City. The Malta Feline Guardians Club (MFGC) put on a wonderful event as well: the 2016 World Cat Show - Malta. The exhibition hall was teeming with superb pedigree cats, and their humans, who had traveled from Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Germany and Spain, and other corners of Europe to attend the international cat show.

The show’s main sponsor, PetNutrition House, spared no expense to make sure that the event met the high standards an international cat show requires. MFGC President, Kevin Micallef and his dedicated team’s hard work achieved what they had set out to do, to make Malta’s first international cat show a purring success!

In keeping with international standards the MFGC invited well respected World Cat Federation (WCF) judges, Ms Tatjana Cernova from Latvia together with Ms Elena Fedorenko and Ms Marina Zhuravleva from Russia.

The well experienced judges, with their keen eyes for perfection, had their work cut out for them with the excellent condition of the cats on show. Abyssinians, Bengals, British Shorthairs, Burmese, Exotics, Himalayans, Maine Coons, Persians, Russian Blue, Siamese, Sphynx and even household cats, just to name a selection, were proudly presented beautifully groomed and glossy, a delight for a cat lovers heart.

Among the first prize winners was 'Hocus Pocus de Lyndsay', a charming champion Sphynx, who proudly with her owners, Lyndsay and Eric Rebetez, took her well deserved award to add to the many others back home in Switzerland (Lyndsay Cattery). With Matthias Wismayer of PetNutrition (r).

Another participant, well known in international cat shows, was 'DK GIC Aloa's Wolverine', a magnificent Maine Coon, who in the company of his owner Andrea Mirino, had come over from Italy (PerlaBlu).

All those who took part in the show were happy with the outcome, and look forward to partake in Malta’s next international cat show.
